[Film] The Runaways

Posted by @Imani_Sublime | Films and Literature,Look And Likes [Fashion, Photography, Models, Art, etc] | Thursday 1 April 2010 12:42 pm

I went to see this on the NYC opening night with a friend of mine and we both cringed at the grown-up scenes Dakota Fanning was in and remarked how Kristen Stewart’s awkward brooding fit the role of Joan Jett quite awesomely.  It was a decent film but the one thing we both remarked over was the fashion and makeup.  The stylists/makeup artists were definitely on point and some of the pieces (like the studded jacket  Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie wears to her audition for the Runaways) we both coveted.  LoL.

Enjoy the photo stills I found of the film.

A quote from Patti Smith

Excerpt taken from “Just Kids” a memoir written by Patti Smith:

“Robert had little patience with these introspective bouts of mine. He never seemed to question his artistic drives, and by his example, I understood that what matters is the work: the string of words propelled by God becoming a poem, the weave of color and graphite scrawled upon the sheet that magnifies His motion. To achieve within the work a perfect balance of faith and execution. From this state of mind comes a light, life-charged.”

Kanye West “Glow in the Dark Tour” Photography Book

One of my favorite blogs is Kanye West’s personal blog, updated constantly with new tech gadgets, modern art, old school visuals and his own personal upcoming events, items, and material.

He posted an entry recently regarding the photography book from his “Glow in the Dark” Tour and the images he showed from his sneak peek of the book were awe-inspiring. Colorful, avant-garde, and unique, I already know this is definitely going on my Christmas wish list.

Salvador Dali & Walt Disney Short Film “Destino”

Posted by @Imani_Sublime | Films and Literature,Look And Likes [Fashion, Photography, Models, Art, etc] | Tuesday 20 October 2009 2:29 pm

I saw this video at the MoMa exhibit on Dali they had in 2008 and scoured YouTube looking for it. I could never find anything more than some grainy, horrific version taken from someones video phone, until someone sent me this full clip with great quality. I loooove the concept and I love the detail. Absolutely jaw-dropping and gorgeous.

[Film] “Coco Before Chanel”

Posted by @Imani_Sublime | Films and Literature | Wednesday 22 July 2009 2:29 pm

Found info on this French film as I was googling about Chanel and again when Common blogged about it. The film is basically a depiction of life before the fame, describing Coco’s obscure beginnings before the rise to fame in the fashion world. French actress Audrey Tatou, looks phenomenal as Coco Chanel. Look at the resemblance in the below photos! Uncanny, right?

Me and my girls are highly anticipating this film, being released in the US in the Fall of 2009. Can NOT wait! I will be rocking some Chanel-inspired looks. Think French! LoL.

[Film] Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”

Posted by @Imani_Sublime | Films and Literature,Look And Likes [Fashion, Photography, Models, Art, etc] | Tuesday 23 June 2009 1:47 pm

Okay, so Tim Burton is positively one of the most creative minds and directors of all time. I love his work. Here are some JUST released photos of his version of “Alice in Wonderland”s The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), The White Queen (Anne Hathaway), and The Queen of Hearts (Helena Bonham-Carter). I love the colors and the intensity of them all… so beautifully done and so unique… so Tim Burton.

I am totally and completely looking forward to this movie, being released in March 2010.

[Film] “Frida”

Posted by @Imani_Sublime | Films and Literature | Monday 18 May 2009 1:11 pm

This is a phenomenal movie based on the life  of surrealist painter, Frida Kahlo, played brilliantly by Salma Hayek. The visuals and the soundtrack lend itself to the story and the art follows the course of Kahlo’s life almost chronologically. I am a huge fan of Salma Hayek and this film, which she was nominated for an Oscar, is to me, some of her best work (yeah, even the strip tease in “From Dusk Til Dawn” does not compare, guys! LOL). If you haven’t seen it, you should peep this.

A quote from Paulo Coelho…

-from his novel “The Alchemist”

“Why do they make things so complicated?” He asked the Englishman one night. The boy had noticed that the Englishman was irritable, and missed his books.

“So that those who have the responsibility for understanding can understand,” he said. “Imagine if everyone went around transforming lead into gold. Gold would lose its value.”

[Film] "Modigliani"

Posted by @Imani_Sublime | Films and Literature | Wednesday 11 February 2009 12:34 pm

Saw this by accident on television and was enthralled.
Though not received well by NY Times critics, I thoroughly enjoyed this biopic of artist Amedeo Modigliani.
The soundtrack, composed by Guy Farley is kinda cool, too.
